Job summary

Ensures that bp complies with tax laws in Malaysia in a responsible manner and have constructive relationships with authorities. This role is primarily responsible for tax advisory on all bp activities in Malaysia as well as providing support to Malaysia direct and indirect tax compliance, reporting, tax risk management, audits and governance. Additionally, this role may be required to provide tax support to customer & products businesses across the Asia Pacific region.

Responsibilities

1. Tax Planning & Advisory

  • Provide tax planning and advisory to businesses and functions in Malaysia on all taxes to achieve an optimum outcome for the bp Group, enhancing business efficiency and improving business results, alongside with proactively managing tax risks.
  • Work with and advise the businesses and functions. Facilitating proactive support for their delivery of priorities and business initiatives.
  • Monitor changes and developments in Malaysian tax legislation
  • Review transfer pricing arrangements to ensure compliance with local tax regulations and bp’s transfer pricing policy and implement transfer pricing controls and put in place contemporaneous documentation to comply with local TP requirements. Work with global transfer pricing team on policy and compliance as it relates to Malaysia and the Asia Pacific region.
  • Work to reduce material tax exposures and manage tax audits effectively.
  • Lead the delivery of tax projects and initiatives in Malaysia including working with other functions and teams to put in place systems enhancements and continuous improvement projects.

2. Tax Compliance and Governance

  • Provide technical support to ensure bp complies with all tax, statutory and regulatory obligations, taxes are correctly recorded and reported in BP’s financial statements and tax controls are in place and effective.
  • Monitor and ensure the requirements of Indirect Tax Compliance Framework (ITCF) are met to mitigate indirect tax risks for businesses/entities in Malaysia
  • Provide assurance on tax provisions in the financial statements Group and statutory reporting.
  • Conduct health checks on Businesses in Malaysia

3.Liaison with Tax Authorities

  • Responsible for Tax Authorities negotiations and settlement and handle tax correspondences with the Tax Authorities and other Government agencies
  • Represent BP in Malaysia and participate in tax initiatives of external tax communities
  • Initiate tax advocacy and influence legislation change for and on behalf of BP as required
  • Maintain strong relationship with internal stakeholders
