The company is best known for designing and manufacturing household appliances such as vacuum cleaners, air purifiers, hand dryers, bladeless fans, heaters, hair dryers, and lights.

Your role

About the team

At Dyson, its people are obsessed with continuously making things better, pushing the boundaries of what others have defined as impossible. They do this by making products that solve real-world problems using both novel technologies and established technologies, in new and innovative ways. Integrating these technologies into a product and ensuring that the company is delivering market-leading performance to its customers is a challenging job and one that takes specialist skills. That’s where the Technology Development team comes in.

About the role

Dyson is looking for a Graduate Product Performance (Filtration) Engineer to join the company's Technology Development team, to support the filter development of its new Environmental Care products.

Working as part of a small team you will be responsible for the high-efficient particulate air filter development to meet critical product performance claims. You will be working alongside the design team to create new ways to measure and predict key performance parameters and ensure that Dyson's technologies are up to meeting their ambitious targets. You will use a mixture of tests, simulation, and engineering judgment to solve the problems that arise as the team develops Dyson's technologies and products. You will work from the very early stages of a project, taking responsibility for development when the technologies leave the research stage, developing them to a feasible solution, and then supporting Dyson's SEA counterparts to take them through to production.

Some of your tasks could include:

  • Identify and manage product and sub-assembly level challenges associated with filter performance and resolve them successfully.
  • Work side by side with the Design Managers and design engineers on allocated projects, provide technical advice to optimize the design, and take full responsibility for the product filtration claims.
  • Conduct experiments and evaluations to define performance requirements. Develop filters to ensure the resolution of the required targets achieved.
  • Use experimental validation and other relevant analysis methods and tools to validate design solutions.
  • Carry out an investigation to diagnose failures with systematic approaches such as FTA, and the 5 Whys method.
  • Keep all stakeholders advised on the progress and status of allocated projects. Provide technical presentation relates to the filter development.
  • Represent the technology development team at all allocated project cross-team meetings and discussions.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with design engineers and broader cross-teams at all levels.
