Engineers Australia is collaborating with Water Infrastructure NSW to promote a new Aboriginal internship program for engineering students.

Water Infrastructure NSW is a division of the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment, responsible for leading the development and delivery of key government water infrastructure projects and programs across the state. They are committed to delivering world-class, major water infrastructure projects that will contribute to the safety, security and sustainability of water resources for communities and the environment. This includes increasing storage capacity through new dams, exploring new and innovative technologies that help improve the efficient use of water and investing in infrastructure enabling water to be recycled and reused safely and effectively.

Water Infrastructure NSW has committed to creating sustainable and ongoing employment and contract opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people within the organisation, and are focused on creating employment pathways to support the aspirations of Indigenous youth. Their internship opportunities provide a chance for Aboriginal university students to build industry experience and learn about future career opportunities with NSW Government.

Currently, Water Infrastructure NSW can offer opportunities in the following areas:

  • Coastal and water engineering projects
  • Water infrastructure environment or construction projects
  • Aboriginal cultural heritage assessments
  • Fishway design and increasing capacity/free passage for fish and other aquatic species in waterways

There is a range of internship placement opportunities available, with flexibility in work locations across metropolitan and regional NSW.
