Your role

The Analytics Graduate Trainee (AGT) program is designed to provide hands-on, end-to-end training on all aspects of data science and analytics in a business environment with full immersion in the Bank’s data.

As an AGT, you will be expected to have knowledge of data extraction and statistics from your studies, and are eager to apply these skills to perform research, visualize and present data in reports, and create prediction models and segmentations.

You will then leverage these applications to build data-driven solutions in areas of business issues, marketing campaigns, reporting, and data management.

Here are your roles as a marketing and communication graduate trainee at HLB Malaysia:

  • To create and execute as a sole contributor
  • Data extraction scripts for MIS and reporting
  • Prepare reports and dashboards
  • Create and run relevant statistical and machine learning models
  • Create analysis and insights to drive business decision making
  • Execute marketing campaigns, followed by review and enhancement
  • To participate in project teams for the department/division
  • in areas such as:
  • Data / Software related implementation projects
  • Data governance and data management implementation
  • Divisional activities and initiatives including Sustainability

Training & development

The 15-month AGT program is conducted within the Marketing, Communications & Analytics Division. It is stated that the first 3 months will consist of on-the-job work projects in reporting, analysis, and campaign creation to assess your technical skills and aptitude.

In the following 12 months, you will be rotated within Analytics to work with various stakeholders from business and specialist divisions. This will provide you with a holistic view of the Bank business and data landscape. This will include creating your own analytic projects for actionable insights and participating in Bank-wide projects.

In addition, you are assigned a supervisor as soon as your start. He or she will help facilitate what you want from your career decisions and the best way to achieve it within the organization. Each area has its own tailored development agenda based on a standardized Hong Leong Bank framework which includes:

  •   Classroom-based and facilitator-led training
  •   Web-based or online virtual learning
  •   Rotation attachments at business-driven teams and support units
  •   Professional certification
  •   Coaching and mentoring

Career progression

This program is designed to prepare Hong Leong Bank Malaysia's future leader. At the end of the program, you will be placed in an analytic role within Analytics or other Divisions to further your ongoing career development path.

Work-life balance

HLB Malaysia keeps employees' work-life balance. The company provides 22 days of annual leaves for the employees to enjoy their life. The workload given is also acceptable as described first. In addition, HLP applied normal working hours, not exceeding more than 8 hours per day and more than 45 hours per week. However, you have to work overtime at the end of the month of the year.

About you

If you are interested to apply for Graduate Trainee at Hong Leong Bank, you have to meet the basic qualifications/education below:

  • STEM-related disciplines: Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, Mathematics & Statistics, Engineering, Sciences
  • Business-related disciplines: Accounting, Finance, Economics, Commerce with strong results in quantitative methods and/or electives in IT and programming

You will be strongly hired if you have the following experience and skills:

  • Fresh graduate preferred
  • Maximum of 2 years of work experience in banking, finance, consultancy, IT
  • Preferred but not compulsory – certification and/or experience in Python, Robot Processing Applications, SAS, Tableau, Google Cloud
