Job Description

Would you like to be a part of a fun, sophisticated, and growing Security team for a best-in-class SaaS company?

Zendesk is looking for a passionate Security intern with excellent communication and development skills to help us improve and optimize our security program. We are seeking someone with a mixture of technical ability, attention to detail, and who can function well on a hard-working and closely-knit team. In addition to technical acuity and a positive outlook, we need a self-motivator to stay on top of emerging threats and vulnerabilities to the Zendesk product.

You will get to work hand-in-hand with our passionate security engineers, supporting functions between both the Security Operations team (CSOC) and the Product Security team. You will spend half of your internship supporting one of these teams, and migrate from one team to another. This hands-on real-world experience will be indispensable in your future career, whether it's focused on information security or process/organizational design and leadership. This is a full-time, 6-month internship. You will be based out of the Melbourne Office.

What you’ll be doing

  • Helping design, build and maintain global security controls and tooling that address current and emerging cyber threats.
  • Aid in performing technology research, automation, integrations, and standardization across Cyber Security at Zendesk.
  • Verify vulnerabilities from the suite of security tools and penetration tests that are used to secure our platforms.
  • Partner with the security engineering team to mature our capabilities.
  • Reviewing and updating documentation (policies, procedures, etc.).
  • Actively participate in the cyber security community establishing relationships and knowledge sharing.
  • Easily adapt to change, seek new responsibilities, accept challenges, and thrive in ambiguity.

What you bring to the role

  • A genuine passion for security. Interest is valued higher than experience.
  • Basic problem-solving skills and self-motivation to learn and upskill regularly.
  • The ability to work independently and across functional teams.
  • A team-first, collaborative approach.
  • Good interpersonal and communications skills

Basic Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program in Computer Science or related field at the time of the internship
  • Must be authorized to work in Melbourne.
  • Must be located in Melbourne for the full duration of the internship.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of attack vectors and relevant security controls to prevent and detect attacks.
  • Basic knowledge of different areas of computer security (network, application, cryptography, forensics, incident response, etc.).
  • Familiarity with programming and/or scripting (includes the ability to write regular expressions) (python, node.js, Bash, Ruby, and/or other programming languages).
  • Basic understanding of AWS cloud services and high-level architecture from a security perspective
  • Involvement in local or regional security user groups or conferences.
