The FedEx Story

The overnight express market began on April 17, 1973, when 14 smaller French Dassault Falcon aircraft took off from Memphis International Airport carrying 186 items to 25 U.S. destinations along the East Coast. Today, FedEx offers a completely integrated system for international package delivery. The majority of the competition has based its operations on the hub-and-spoke and track-and-trace business models that FedEx pioneered. Its development, innovation, and success throughout the years have not been attributed to a single individual, but rather to a fantastic team effort by 300,000 team members. So here's to another 40 years and looking forward to building on the success that began all those years ago in a small airport in Tennessee on a special spring evening.

Culture & Vibe

FedEx was based on the People-Service-Profit (PSP) concept and business model, and all workers now live by it. By taking care of its employees, a business can provide exceptional customer service and generate a fair profit, which it can then spend on both its workers and its future. Since day one, multiculturalism and inclusivity have been ingrained in FedEx's DNA. The business embraces these qualities not only in the resourcing and hiring processes but also in its relations with vendors and the charitable organizations it supports. This is because the company has known for years what numerous studies now conclusively demonstrate: that staff diversification and integration are key driving forces of business success.
