What it does: LinkedIn connects freshers with employers through professional networking via its online website and mobile app.

Staff stats: Approximately 10,001+ employees Globally

Financials: $10 Billion Globally

The good bits: LinkedIn announces one million members in Malaysia.

The not-so-good bits: The company doesn’t advertise a lot of job opportunities for students and freshers.

The Linkedin Story

Founded in 2003, LinkedIn connects the world’s professionals to make them more productive and successful. With more than 187 million members worldwide, including executives from every Fortune 500 company, LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network on the Internet. The company has a diversified business model with revenues coming from its talent solutions, marketing solutions, and premium subscriptions businesses. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, LinkedIn has offices across the globe.

The one million member milestone is significant following the launch of the Bahasa Malaysia language site in 2011. The launch of the Bahasa Malaysia language site has spurred a whole new generation of LinkedIn users locally. Professionals in Malaysia are building their professional profile, connecting with a global network, gaining relevant business insights, and seeking out their dream jobs.

Malaysia is facing a heightened challenge for top talent, due to a limited talent pool and a Gen Y attracted by opportunities to work in other southeast Asian countries. With new members signing up at a rate that is faster than two new members per second globally, LinkedIn’s global reach and scale can help professionals and companies in Malaysia connect opportunity with talent through its large, global network of resources and opportunities.

As part of Malaysia’s national goal of tackling Vision 2020 aspirations, companies are moving towards new ways to create a competitive, robust, and resilient economy. LinkedIn’s recently launched Talent Brand Index can benefit Malaysian employers to measure and benchmark the strength of their employer brand and improve their ability to attract top talent.

Axiata stands to benefit from the growth of LinkedIn members in Malaysia as it allows us to engage with highly skilled professionals in the telecommunications industry. We constantly source senior talent for our operations in various countries from the Asian region as well as globally to keep up with the rapid change in the demands of the industry

The culture

Insiders describe LinkedIn culture as ‘compassionate’ and ‘inclusive’. Most employees feel grateful for the healthy work-life balance and supportive management.

In 2020, the company allowed employees to work from home as a safety measure amid the COVID-19 pandemic. LinkedIn India even offered full-time remote work for most employees even after restrictions were lifted in the country.

On the other hand, the challenges of working for the company include handling multiple roles. Some insiders claim that their jobs include responsibilities beyond their pay grade. For example, a backend developer had to work on ‘frontend, data pipeline, and even app development.

The vibe of the place

Freshers have a slim chance of joining LinkedIn India because of its limited internship and entry-level roles. Those who are active on the professional networking site have the upper hand, as they can closely follow updates to land their dream job at the company

Recruitment Process

Most of the applicants at LinkedIn go through four stages of recruitment: online application, pre-interview, interview, and feedback.

Online application

LinkedIn has adopted a fully virtual application process since 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Freshers should create a profile and follow the company’s official account to be updated on the latest jobs.

It’s easy to filter search results on the LinkedIn website to find relevant internship and entry-level roles. The company, however, often advertises opportunities for experienced professionals.

Pre-interview

In case freshers find a job on the website, a company recruiter will schedule a call to speak with qualified candidates.

A video interview with the hiring manager or a potential colleague may happen after the initial HR call. The usual questions during this session focus on a candidate’s experience, expertise, and skills.

Interviews

Those who move on to the in-depth interviews should prepare to meet different people from the hiring team. Each interviewer will evaluate the applicant’s skills for the target role.

Certain positions such as software development engineers may involve four technical rounds and a system design round. Common questions include:

  • How do you calculate the value of arithmetic in Reverse Polish Notation?

  • How do you check for a pair in a given array with the sum as the given target?

LinkedIn may also ask candidates to present a case study or accomplish a whiteboard exercise.

Feedback

Insiders said that the company may hire someone in as fast as one week. The average time takes between four and six weeks
