We’re a local company with an international reach across 70 countries. The Initial brand dates back to 1903 when customer’s own initials were stitched into their towels and linen to ensure they only received their own items back. Rentokil dates back to 1925 when the wooden roof of London’s Westminster Hall at the Houses of Parliament was under threat by Deathwatch beetle. Our founder created a new fluid which successfully controlled the infestation and the rest is history. Innovation has been in our DNA ever since.

Recruitment process

Below you will find the standard interview journey that every role will go through. After Field Day/Second Stage Interview there are additional steps for specific roles which you will be notified of by your recruiter if you have to complete.

Apply Online

The first step is to apply online, you can find all vacancies by clicking on 'All roles' under the 'Our Roles' section on our website.

We suggest that you apply for roles that align with your skills and experience. Additionally, some roles require the candidate to have a degree or specific qualifications, however for other roles we provide you with on the job and formal training so you wouldn't require prior qualifications.

No need to worry if you can't do it all though! We understand that training is essential to bring out the best in you and develop your knowledge and skills. Preparation

We understand that preparing for a job interview can sometimes feel overwhelming. Preparation is key to feeling confident and at ease so you can perform your best on the day of your interview. We have a few suggestions to help:

Take a look at our social media to get a feel for our culture and what qualities you would bring. Prepare for common questions and review your CV so you are ready for questions on your experience. Phone Screening

If you are successful after applying, you will be contacted by email or phone to arrange a time for a phone interview with a member of our recruitment team. Usually, phone interviews last around 20 minutes and your recruiter will ask questions to better understand your experience and suitability for the role.

During the interview you will have the opportunity to learn more about life at Rentokil Initial and the role you are applying for. We suggest that you prepare by reviewing the job description, research the company and think about any questions you would like to discuss.

First Stage Interview

Please note: Currently all First Stage Interviews will be conducted virtually via Google Hangouts due to the current Coronavirus situation. However, if you are contacted by a recruiter for a face-to-face interview, you will receive additional information regarding the date, location and duration of the interview.

This first interview is an opportunity to get to know a number of things including more in-depth information about the role and what the day-to-day tasks would include, the team you could be working with and the company culture.

Typically, most of the interview questions asked will be competency based questions, meaning candidates should provide real-life examples as the basis of their answers. Candidates should explain why they made certain decisions, how they implemented these decisions and why certain outcomes took place. Field Day/ Second Stage Interview

Please note: Currently some Field Day sessions are postponed to ensure the safety of candidates, employees and customers is maintained.

In usual circumstances, candidates would  experience a typical day in the life for one of our field roles. We believe this experience gives candidates a holistic view of the services we deliver and provides knowledge for any role either field or office based. We have had some excellent feedback which really helps in creating a positive candidate experience. This is also your opportunity to ask as many questions as you want with the technician to get a better understanding of the role and company.

Next steps after the field day is a second interview with the hiring manager to ensure that the role is right for you.

Psychometric Test

This is completed online and usually takes around 20 minutes. This test is an objective way to measure the potential ability of candidates to perform well in a job role. Psychometric tests measures a range of skills from cognitive abilities, knowledge to assess personality.

Creative Task

Tasks are assigned to creative roles such as marketing. A creative brief and all information will be shared with candidates by a recruiter.

Typing Test

Call Centre roles require a typing test stage, this is to test speed and accuracy.

Role Play

Sales and Call Centre roles undertake role play sessions. These sessions test the interviewee in their problem-solving and communication skills to see how they interact with customers and other team members.

Job Offer

If successful, a recruiter will be in contact with the good news via phone to give a verbal offer. We also welcome candidate feedback as we are always looking at how we can improve and add to our strengths. The onboarding process will begin which is completed by the HR team. You are expected to finish your job (for instance a route of customer visits) but you often work on your own - your manager is not standing over you. For those people with route-based roles - you are responsible for your route - we will assist and support but you get to know your area and get a lot of input on how best to service your customers.

Rookie Technician – in training

Technician Level 1 – undertakes service routes alone

Technician Level 2 – is able to install products on customer sites; additional earning potential – has committed to overtime where necessary

Technician Level 3 – is able to install products on customer sites; additional earning potential – cover relief routes

Remuneration

Controversies

Traditionally, Rentokil Initial Malaysia had customers pay for its services via cash or cheque. Because of this antique and manual payment process, the company struggled with collecting payments from the customers. Even after collecting payment, there are risks involved with cash fraud and basic human error.

As Rentokil Initial Malaysia’s business continued to grow exponentially, the issue of cash collection became more apparent as they tried to keep up with the increasing amount of payers from their different services. To solve its problems, Rentokil Initial Malaysia created a new digital financial ecosystem with HSBC in 2017 to improve the company’s processes.
